RPGLA Sutures

The Endure Absorbable RPGLA (Rapid Polyglycolide-co-Iactide) Suture is a sterile, synthetic suture composed of a copolymer made from 90% glycolide and 10% L-Iactide. The empirical formula of the copolymer is (C2H2O2)m(C3H4O2)n. It is developed with a Poly (glycolide-co-lactide (30/70) and a Calcium Stearate coating. PGLA sutures are great for a wide range of wound care applications, including ophthalmic (e.g. conjunctiva) procedures, whereas Rapid-PGLA sutures are excellent for general soft tissue approximation where only short-term wound support is required.

INDICATIONS

RPGLA Suture is indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in ophthalmic procedures, but not for use in cardiovascular or neural tissue.

PERFORMANCE

The RPGLA suture (Polyglycolide-co-Iactide) elicits a minimal initial inflammatory reaction in tissues and ingrowth of fibrous connective tissue. Progressive loss of tensile strength and eventual absorption of Endure RPGLA (Polyglycolide-co-Iactide) occurs by means of hydrolysis, where the copolymer degrades to glycolic and lactic acids which are subsequently absorbed and metabolized in the body. Absorption begins as a loss of tensile strength followed by a loss of mass.

RPGLA sutures are sterilized by Ethylene Oxide
Do not re-sterilize!
Do not use if package is opened or damaged!
Discard opened, unused sutures!
